We absolutely love everyone here! Whenever my son is sick they fit us in the same day. The staff and doctors are all very nice and actually take the time to listen to your concerns and not rush you out the door like most other facilities.
Unfortunately, I have had an awful time with my almost 2 year old daughter over the last several days. Last Thursday she came home and found she had lice! We finally got rid of it over the weekend to where I called the doctors office for a nurse to call about further remedies I could use safely for her. I received a call and in a reasonable amount of time and was well informed, she was very patient! Then Monday I had to call again because on Sunday she was coughing, over the night it got worse and started to sound Croupy. I called and could not get through, 13 min...to 11 min...back to 13....6 min...finally I got through and had to leave a note for a nurse to call me because the office claimed they were really busy. I waited an hour in a half and no one had called me. I then called back and stated that, and the front desk lady went to get a nurse because I told her my daughter NEEDS to be seen. They scheduled me for 12...then called back and said 11:50 and I gladly took it. I was there 10 min before 11:30 and went in around 11:24. Not a single person in the chairs. There was one person at theach front desk getting registered. We saw Dr. Abernathy, and personally I have seen her before and she was very rude when asking questions and when I tried to answer she seemed very annoyed and her facial tones displayed that perfectly. My daughter was confirmed to have Croup. She was agitated, scared, and Abernathy seemed very frustrated. Most doctors sit down with you and talk to your about diagnosis and treatment, well she went through all that very quickly and explained that she "thought" my daughter has a "bifid uvula" and needs to be seen my an ENT...I was concerned about that and she didn't explain it very well or what I should look for or be worried about and I had all of those feelings, she more so talked about structure when I asked about it. She also had a student with her, whom left the room and she opened the door wide open, still hanging onto it, and asked "do you have anymore questions?" And at by then I was annoyed with how she was treating me or her tone with me that I just said no. I wanted to know about her allergies and what I could give her, and it was noted on the sheet but she never went over that. I just ignored it and figured I would call back to speak to someone else. I just thought for her 21 years of experiences she would've been more professional and patient, like doctor Pappas and Roberson who we see regularly, Monday was to just get her in asap to be seen. I've never had either one of them make me feel the way she did that day on top of being stressed with the way my daughter felt. I called back today (April 19th) because my daughter had a regular cold cough this morning but sounded at the end like she was sucking in (or trouble breathing/gagging). I figured it was maybe allergies/sinuses so I called them at 8:04 they open at 8, and it took 13 min to wait...13 min..4 min...2 min...finally talked to a receptionist and told her I just wanted a nurse to call for some general medication questions for allergies she was there on Monday for croup. She said she would put that note in for me and include the croup part so they would be aware. Well an hour..almost 2 hours later no one has called and my daughter during that wait coughed twice and Lord behold, it sounded just like croup again. So I start panicking. I called them and informed them that it has been almost 2 hours and no one has called I had the same problem on Monday, don't bother having her call me because I will take her somewhere else. She continued to ask for my daughter's name, and surely I told her..and repeated don't have her call me, forget it, I will take her somewhere else its ridiculous that no one can call and give simple information or just say she needs to be reevaluated. I had trouble in the past as well trying to get her nebulizer when they told me to go up the street to get it, so I go and the pharmacy tech tells me they don't have them there...so I called back and said oh you'll have to go all the way to Culpeper.
The doctors and nurses are wonderful, but the front desk are so rude that I will never go back there. When you are stressed with a sick baby the last thing you need is to be grilled and judged by a receptionist. It happened every time I went there and they reduced me to tears more than once. Find somewhere else to take your child.
Since we have been going to Orange Pediatrics several years ago, our experience has been awesome. My youngest son has a disability and Dr. Abernathy came highly recommended with her expertise in ADD/ADHD. Her direction to many outlets within UVA Health Systems has helped our family deal with our son. Mary Yowell has contributed several options with our local school. She truly has been my saving grace. All other staff have been very courteous and go above and beyond.
I recommend Dr. Porsche L. Roberson! She is amazing! I had her as my PCP before I turned 18 and then once I had my son at 19 he went to her as well until we moved to NC. She is very caring and loving and listens to every concern. She even helped me try to get my son to latch when we were breastfeeding. I would recommend her to anyone with children of ALL ages! The other doctors are also very friendly and so is the whole staff. If I could I'd pack them all up and bring them with me! They have an over all homey feel to the office. If I could give more than 5 stars I would!
