I went to do a consultation with Mr. Slayton which I paid for btw for a custody case regarding my grandson who is still to this day in the care of a woman who is not biologically related to him. I paid Mr. Slayton the $1,500 retaining fee, which he cashed immediately. However he failed to notify the courts, GAL and opposing party for 3 weeks! I happened to go by the court house only to find out they had no attorney listed for me, I had to call him and tell him to notify all parties! Then I had an emergency situation where this woman brought the biological mother in from out of state who is a crystal meth addict. I HAD to tell HIM to request a exparty hearing and it took him over a week to get it to the court and he did it by mail! My trial date was set for a Monday, he finally calls me Thursday to go over the very complicated case. Unfortunately I had to pick up a potential witness Friday so I was unable to see him Fri afternoon, but I could have met Saturday or Sunday. He was completely unprepared when we went to court. He had no idea what questions to ask or points to make. I should of fired him right then and there and taken over my own case. In total I paid this man over $5,000 to do nothing. He'll charge you $34 to $75 just to read a email, so don't email unless you must. If you're looking for a family attorney keep looking.
